Ants!

Last week, as part of our study of living things, ants arrived in our classroom.  The students were excited to share them with you through Seesaw today.

EXPO Save The Date
Spring Expo is scheduled for the evening of Thursday, March 22nd.

Kindergarten Concert
Ms. Huckabone has a kindergarten evening concert scheduled for April 10th at 6 PM.  She sent home a flyer about it today.

Pennies for Pasta
Information went home today on how to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society.  I know we just got finished with the penny wars fundraiser, so do what you can.

Curriculum Overview
Science -  This week we continue our Project Based Unit on living things.  Our driving questions is "How can we grow our own healthy snacks?".  This week we will move our pea seedlings into the school's tower garden and study the structure and function of plants.  We will also learn about our new ants and determine what they need to survive.

Reading - Fiction books usually have story lines where a particular problem rises to a climax and then is resolved.  We are working on identifying and tracking those problems.  If you haven't already, ask your children about Owl Babies by Martin Waddell.

Writing - As we conduct an experiment trying to prove what plants need to survive, students will be writing about their observations of the different groups of plants.  We will also diagram the parts of a plant.

Math - This week we will begin learning about pictographs, bar graphs, line graphs, and tally charts.

Word Study - We are focused on the vocabulary words necessary for our current PBL unit on living things.
