Last week we moved our pea seedlings into the indoor vertical garden. |
Kindness Campaign
We have begun a kindness campaign this week. This morning all of the students in the school created name tags and tried to use the names of their peers in the classroom and throughout the school. We also practiced saying hello and giving compliments. Later in the week we will be reading kindness books including a special book read to us by Assistant Principal Brooke Stidham. There will be an assembly on Wednesday and on Friday the whole school will wear green to show friendship.
EXPO Save The Date
Spring Expo is scheduled for the evening of Thursday, March 22nd. Check out this flyer for more information.
Kindergarten Concert
Ms. Huckabone has a kindergarten evening concert scheduled for April 10th at 6 PM. She sent home a paper about it last week.
Curriculum Overview
Science - This week we continue our Project Based Unit on living things. We have been working hard to understand what animals need to survive. After studying our ants and reading about many different animals we have found that animals need water, food, and shelter to survive. We are learning about how some animals are wild while other animals are domestic, or dependent on people.
Reading - We have been reading fiction books that also show animals and their needs. This week we will also read a lot of books on kindness including Kindness is Cooler Ms. Ruler and The Quiltmaker's Gift.
Writing - This week will be writing about what we have learned about the needs of animals.
Math - This week we will continue learning about pictographs, bar graphs, line graphs, and tally charts. We will also review some addition and subtraction including double's facts like 2 + 2 = 4 or 4 -2 = 2 and 6 + 6 = 12 or 12 - 6 = 6
Word Study - We are focused on the vocabulary words necessary for our current PBL unit on living things: herbivore, carnivore, omnivore, domestic, wild, stem, roots, leaves, flowers and more.
