While they run, color cornstarch is thrown in the air marking their laps. More information about how you can donate is coming. If you would like to volunteer and help out with this event please sign up here.
Bike or Walk to School This Wednesday
This Wednesday is a Bike or Walk to school day. An email went home last Monday, 4/23, with details. A paper flier also went home.
Field Trip on Thursday, May 17th
As part of our study of the human body we are planning a kindergarten field trip to St. Joe's Health Exploration Station in Canton. The trip is officially planned for Thursday, May 17th. We will leave the school at 9:30 AM and return at 11:45 AM. If you would like to join us as a chaperone please email me and make sure you have filled out the necessary background check paperwork and submitted it to the office (many of you already took care of this in the Fall). A field trip permission slip went home in student's red folders today. It is printed on bright golden paper.
Snacks
Please bring in some crackers for our snacks.
Curriculum Overview
Science - We are currently in the middle of a Project Lead The Way unit on the structure and function of the human body. This week we will work on understanding the skeletal structure of our hands. We will be trying to understand why we have so many bones in our hands.
Math - This week we will primarily be working on reading analog and digital clocks. Today we made a list of things that take about one second, one minute, and one hour.
Literacy - We are reading books about skeletons and bones to support the learning of our Project Lead The Way unit on the human body.
Writing - Students are going to be doing some informational writing around one of the parts of the human body we have studied. As a class we have been writing about the heart. Students have been doing additional writing, unrelated to our human body work, during our guided reading centers. They have been creating books on a topic of their choice.
Word Study - This week students are working on different word sorts aligned with their academic next steps. Students are working on letter sounds, blends, and spelling patterns. In addition to these sorts, as a class last week, we looked at contractions.
