Field Trip on Thursday, May 17th
As part of our study of the human body we are planning a kindergarten field trip to St. Joe's Health Exploration Station in Canton.  The trip is officially planned for Thursday, May 17th.  We will leave the school at 9:30 AM and return at 11:45 AM.  If you would like to join us as a chaperone please email me and make sure you have filled out the necessary background check paperwork and submitted it to the office (many of you already took care of this in the Fall).  A field trip permission slip will go home this week.

Snacks
Bring in some crackers for our snacks.

Curriculum Overview
Science - We are currently in the middle of a Project Lead The Way unit on the structure and function of the human body.  Today a doctor from U of M came to discuss the heart and lungs.  She taught about the heart and lungs and helped students hear the hearts of their peers and also spoke about some of the steps she took to become a doctor.  If you have a background in medicine and would like speak to our class about some aspect of the human body please email me and let me know.

Math - We will be studying fractions this week, primarily halves, quarters, thirds, and wholes.

Literacy - We are reading books about the human body to support the learning of our Project Lead The Way unit on the human body.  We are also reading a book that has a Phoenix in it so we can learn more about our school mascot.  Ask your students about The Girl Who Drew a Phoenix.

Writing - Students are going to be doing some informational writing around one of the parts of the human body we have studied.

Word Study - This week students are working on different word sorts aligned with their academic next steps.  Students are working on letter sounds, blends, and spelling patterns.

Today we started exploring equal parts and fractions.
