Welcome Back

Thanks for coming out for our Expo!
I hope you had a wonderful spring break.

New Project Lead the Way Unit

This week we are beginning a new Project Lead The Way unit on the structure and function of the human body.  Students will learn about the shape and structure of our major organs along with the function and purpose of each.

Performance Next Week
Ms. Huckabone is hosting a kindergarten performance next Tuesday, April 10th, at 6PM.

STEAM Expo
Thank you so much for coming to our STEAM Expo.  I really appreciate the effort you made to get here on time and your willingness to work around any traffic or parking issues.  The students were really excited to host you and show you their learning.  I posted many photos of the Expo night, and our classwork leading up to it, online in the Room K-3 Photo Gallery.

Homework
Thanks for getting those assignments back to me today.  A new packet will go out later this week.

Curriculum Overview
Science - We are beginning a Project Lead The Way unit on the structure and function of the human body!  Students will learn about the shape and structure of our major organs along with the function and purpose of each.  Students will begin assembling a miniature (and simplified) human body on paper at the end of this week.

Math - In class this week we will study fact families and further understand how addition and subtraction are related.  We will also look at simple functions (i.e. with a "+2" function if you put in the number 0 you get 2.  If you put in the number 3 you get 5)

Literacy - We are reading books about the human body to support the learning of our Project Lead The Way unit on the human body.  As part of our year long study of weather we will also read a realistic fiction book about a family facing Hurricane Katrina.

Writing - Students are going to be doing some writing around the new Project Lead The Way unit on the Human Body.  Before that begins I will be teaching the students to stretch out their stories into multiple sections and pages.

Word Study - This week students are working on different word sorts aligned with their academic next steps.  Students are working on letter sounds, blends, and complex spelling patterns.
